Summer is at our doors. Whether it is a family trip, between friends or a business trip, car rental can make a real difference. However, before booking a renting car for a short-term, insurance and excess should be your main concern.
What does excess means?
Excess (sometimes called deductible) is the amount you owe in case of an accident when damages are covered by the car insurance, and that you are responsible for the accident. This amount varies according to the renting car category and differs from a company to another.
Most of car rental companies do not clearly explain the excess in their terms and conditions. They leave the information vague by only mentioning the existence of an excess, and do not declare the amount, or they precise that the excess amount is equal to a certain rate of the vehicle’s value, which is unclear since the client does not know for sure the real value of the car.
This ambiguity can cause problems in case of an accident or damages subject to the car.
